Lent

Ash Wednesday is coming up, and I'm very much looking forward to Lent. I've been in a bit of a spiritual stupor (probably why I haven't been blogging much), and Lent has proven to be a fairly fruitful time for me.

I was at Kroger's the other day grocery shopping and they had a small fridge full of fish with a sign that said "Lent made easy!" over it, and I thought "Boy, way to miss the point!" It's a sad sign of our times, where convenience and ease reign supreme. During the Lenten season prior to my baptism and official conversion, I added additional fasting in preparation, not for a sense of spiritual superiority, but in an effort to really draw my mind and soul to God. I did a bread and water only fast on Wednesdays as well the typical fasting on Saturdays (in addition to Friday as well). I'm contemplating doing something similar to help with my spiritual dry spell, since it's been effective for me in the past.

Hey Katie! I love your blog! Can you tell me what the name of the Pride and Prejustice sequel is?? I didn't know someone wrote one!

I totally agree with you about missing the point in the Lent made easy sign, but I’m still a bit excited when I see any reference, even one slightly off the mark, to the church in the public square. Times are getting dark out there in PC land.

M- The one I'm currently reading (and am almost done with!) is called "An Unequal Marriage" by Emma Tennant. She also has a sequel set right after the Darcy's marriage called Pemberly. There are quite a few Jane Austen sequels around, though some are really awful!

Anne Marie- Good point! Usually you just see in influx of fish sandwiches at fast food joints, but now that you mention it, that's one of the only times I've seen the word Lent used!

Hey, Katie, it's your sil. I'm actually going to do some fasting for lent myself. We have so much going on and so many worries that I feel like I need some grounding.
