Sad News

I started bleeding and cramping early Sunday morning. I had an OB appointment first thing this morning. Unfortunately the ultrasound showed that our baby quit growing a few weeks ago (I should have been 16w3d, baby was only measuring 13w5d) and no heart beat. So sad to see my little baby curled up on the screen with a still chest where the heart should be fluttering. I'm calling the doctor back around 1pm to schedule a d&c. They can collect everything and do testing, and since it's a Catholic hospital the Sisters of St. Francis will cremate the baby for us. 2nd trimester loss after you've already heard a good heart beat is unusual, I'm hoping they can find some cause as to why this happened. I've felt for the last couple of weeks something wasn't right, I felt like I should be bigger and I wasn't feeling anything I could definitely say was movement (plus, I'd been having a lot of food cravings that suddenly stopped). Since I did have two friends miscarry within a week of each other, my husband said I was probably just nervous because of that. But, I couldn't shake that feeling. I guess I was right :(

Oh, Katie, My heart goes out to you. I hope that help can be found. Do you have any NaPro/ Fertility care doctors in your area? Look one up...even on the internet if you can't find one...They have helped SO many people get to the "bottom" of issues. Progesterone supplementation can help, if that is the cause of the loss. I will pray for you and your family.

Katie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a baby, no matter how long you've been pregnant, is so terribly hard to go through. The beautiful thing about our faith though is that even though we've lost someone so dear we are still connected to them. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. (((HUGS)))

It really hurts to know you're going through this, and I know it hurts you even more. My new motto of advice. "It sucks but it'll get better." Yay for Catholic hospitals!! It was so wonderful to have the artwork in the room and even a nun come by to see me! And the cremation/burial you/we are receiving is awesome. My last hospital before here would throw babies under 20ish weeks out with medical waste, so we chose to pay a funeral home to have him cremated. Nicely, they never charged us, and even added a nice urn for free. Just tell us what to do to help you, even if it's to tell us to go away!

Oh, Katie. I’m so, so sorry. I truly know your pain.

May the Lord bless and keep you, may his face shine upon you, may he be gracious and give you peace.

Ask your priest if he will do a funeral Mass for your little one. I don't know the particulars, but I recall reading Abigail @ Abigail's Alcove and her family had a Mass for one of the children she lost.

Here's the link to her post about the Mass. http://abigails-alcove.blogspot.com/2008/01/march-for-life_21.html
